A new wave of snow and cold weather is expected to strike most of Turkey this week, with less intense snowfall than most recently but cold weather lingering for longer.

According to meteorology experts, Istanbul will be hit by snow on the night of Jan. 25 but the impact will be less severe and the maximum height of the snow is expected to reach 10 to 15 centimeters.

Speaking to private broadcaster CNN Türk, Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş said the municipality was busy taking all measures and urged people to use public transport rather than risk driving in tough conditions once the snowfall begins.

In the first week of January, Istanbul and major parts of Turkey were hit by days of intense snowfall that paralyzed life for many people and prevented land, sea and air traffic in many places.
