The fire reportedly began when a boiler in the hotel's sauna exploded late Monday. The victims were slightly injured by broken glass as they tried to leave the building.

The agency said Tuesday that firefighters evacuated seven guests stuck in the penthouse of the hotel. Some also suffered from smoke inhalation but were in good condition.

The officials noted that the 126-room hotel did not have a fire escape. Anatolia news agency said an official investigation was launched to determine the cause of the fire.

A spokeswoman for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said the injured were taken to hospital but no one was thought to have been seriously hurt, the Press Association reported.

"We have been advised that no one is in a serious condition, she was quoted as saying. "Consular staff from the British Consulate in Marmaris have traveled to the hotel to meet with the British nationals involved to provide consular assistance."
