Turkey’s Family and Social Policies Ministry announced that recent court decisions provided 4,634 women in Turkey with police protection in order to prevent domestic violence.

As part of decisions handed out within the scope of a new law for the protection of the family and the prevention of violence against women, 4,634 women were provided with police protection while preventive measures were taken on behalf of 29,624 women, according to data the Family and Social Policies Ministry announced yesterday.

Police protection was mostly given in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri, where 989 women received protection. The southern province of Adana followed with 974, while the Central Anatolian province of Konya came in third place with 840. In Ankara, on the other hand, eight women received protection while only 14 women were provided with protection in Istanbul.

As part of the law, some preventive measures were also implemented such as suspension from home and officially issued warnings. These preventive measures were mostly implemented in Ankara with 4,549 prevention decisions, while the Aegean province of İzmir came in the second place with 4,431 decisions and Istanbul followed it with 3,768.
