5 killed, 5 wounded in metrobus accident in Istanbul

Five people were killed while another five were wounded when a car crashed into a metrobus in Istanbul’s central Kadıköy district on Oct. 27.The accident occurred at 2 a.m. when a car traveling from Kadıköy towards the Bosphorus Bridge entered the metrobus lane and crashed head on with a metrobus en route to Söğütlüçeşme in Kadıköy.
Reports claim the group had been consuming alcohol and entered the metrobus lane in an attempt to avoid a checkpoint by the traffic police.
After the crash, both vehicles drifted for about 10 meters due to the speed of the accident.
Two passengers in the private car, Talha Uzun and Hüseyin Yıldırım, died at the scene of the incident. The three other people who were killed in the accident remain unidentified.
Meanwhile, five people were wounded, including a female passenger from the car, metrobus driver Erdoğan Kalender and three passengers inside the metrobus.
Health squads and medical teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident in order to rescue passengers trapped inside the vehicles.
Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
The incident marks the second similar accident within the past month, as four people were injured on the Bosphorus Bridge on Oct. 20 when a car crashed into a metrobus from behind.
