35 detained in coup attempt probe in Istanbul

ISTANBUL
Police in Istanbul detained 35 people on Dec. 10 as part of a probe into the July 15 failed coup attempt, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

Early on Dec. 10, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention warrants for 55 suspects accused of being part of the Gülen movement and of financing the group, which was believed to be behind the attempted takeover.

Among those detained were businessmen and air traffic controllers. An operation to apprehend the remaining 20 suspects is still underway, the agency said.

The July 15 coup attempt left 248 people killed and nearly 2,200 injured.
