340 kg of cannabis hidden in ketchup bottles seized in Diyarbakır

Police have seized 340 kilograms of cannabis hidden in ketchup bottles in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 23.

Anti-narcotics police officers seized 340 kilograms of cannabis hidden in ketchup bottles being stored at an enterprise in Diyarbakır’s city center.

In addition, 288 kilograms of cannabis were found in a truck and allegedly supplied from Diyarbakır’s Lice district, due to be sent to Turkey’s western provinces.

Two suspects were detained in the operation.

Meanwhile, more than 155 kilograms of heroin were also seized in the nearby eastern province of Van, Anadolu Agency reported on Feb. 23, citing police sources.

In an anti-narcotics operation conducted in Van’s city center and several districts, police officers searched a truck and found 155 kilograms of heroin hidden in the base of the truck.

The driver and the passenger were arrested on drug-related offenses.

In another operation launched by customs guards, more than 61 kilograms of packed heroin were confiscated from a lorry, the Customs and Trade Ministry said in a written statement

Customs guards halted the lorry at the Habur border gate between southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq.
