32 detained in AKP municipality

Police have detained 32 people, including two deputy mayors, in an operation into corruption allegations in the Justice and Development Party (AKP) ruled Mudanya district municipality in the western province of Bursa, Anadolu Agency has reported.The 32 individuals, including two deputy mayors and 11 public workers, were detained Sept. 24, following claims of “bribery, embezzlement, violation of tax law, and fraud in official documents.”
The Bursa police department’s financial police seized several documents at the Mudanya municipality building after searches. The suspects are expected to be sent to court on Sept. 27.
A former deputy mayor from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), identified as İ.Y., is also among the detained suspects, according to daily Radikal.
