The 26th International İzmir Festival kicks off with a concert tonight from the Philharmonia Orchestra, which will be performing as part of its “Re-Rite” project.

The orchestra will play Igor Stravinsky’s 1918 “The Soldier’s Tale,” from a post-war time when jazz was just beginning to emerge into the mainstream. The story is a dark Faustian fable about a deserting soldier and the Devil, who eventually possesses his soul. The piece is scored for just seven instruments: clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion.

ICC issues arrest warrants for Israeli Premier Netanyahu, Gallant, Deif

In a landmark move, the International Criminal Court on Thursday announced it had issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes it accuses them of carrying out in Palestinian territories, including Gaza.
