2011 makes its mark as a good year

Turkish Cypriot Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture Ünal Üstel said Saturday “the year 2011 was a good year for our tourism.”Speaking to Anatolia news agency in the Turkish Cypriot capital of Nicosia, Üstel said the number of tourists visiting Turkish Cyprus reached a record number in 2011.
“There have been 2.1 million overnight stays in Turkish Cypriot hotels since the beginning of 2011, and this is a record figure,” Üstel said. The ministry was making preparations so that tourism in Turkish Cyprus would spread over 12 months each year, he said. “We are in the process of entering the Scandinavian and Russian markets,” Üstel said, noting that in 2011, 320 charter flights from 14 countries arrived at Ercan International Airport. “
