17 arrested in second wave of exam cheating case in Turkey

A total of 17 suspects allegedly involved in fraud connected to Turkey’s Public Personnel Selection Exam (KPSS) held in 2010 were arrested April 24 in a second wave of arrests, while 25 others were released on probation. 

On April 20, the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office had ordered the detention of 78 suspects in the second wave of arrests in the KPSS exam cheating case in 21 provinces including Ankara, Malatya, Isparta, Corum and Bitlis.

An Ankara public prosecutor released two women out of 44 suspects and sent the other 42 to the vacancy magistracy. As was the case in the first wave of arrests, the suspects were accused of being members of a criminal organization, illegal and harmful activity in public institutions and forging official documents.

The first wave of arrests came in late March across 14 provinces including Ankara, Istanbul and İzmir and resulted in the detention of 62 suspects, as 30 were later released.

The suspects of the first wave had faced charges of being members of a criminal organization, document fraud, illegal and harmful activity in public institutions, destroying criminal evidence and abuse of power.
