Around 13,000 people, including a number of world leaders, are expected to attend the G-20 Leaders’ Summit to be held in Turkey’s southwestern coastal province of Antalya in November, the province’s governor said April 7.“We expect around 13,000 people to attend the summit. The U.S. delegation alone usually consists of about 1,000 people. We also expect to receive about 1,500 members of the press. The hotels [in the region] are making their preparations accordingly,” Antalya Gov. Muammer Türker told Anadolu Agency.
The Foreign Ministry has asked that the hotels in the region not be booked during the summit, he said.
The two-day summit, which will be held under the presidency of Turkey on Nov. 15 and 16, will bring together G-20 leaders, including U.S. President Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese PM Shinzo Abe. It will also enhance the city’s popularity as a tourism destination, Türker added.
Turkey assumed the G-20 presidency last December.
