11 detained over suspected links to PKK in Turkey’s Van

Police detained 11 people on Nov. 15 over their suspected links to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party/Kurdistan Communities Union (PKK/KCK) in the eastern province of Van, state-run Anadolu Agency reported. 

The suspects were detained in simultaneously conducted operations at various addresses in the province’s Erciş and Çatak districts for allegedly undertaking in actions on behalf of the PKK/KCK, helping them and serving as an accessory to the crime.

Police were reported to have seized some digital materials during the raids.

Meanwhile on the same day, one Turkish soldier who was injured in a clash with PKK militants in Eleşkirt, a district in Turkey’s eastern province of Ağrı, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital, a statement said.

In the statement, the Ağrı Governor’s Office said four PKK militants were also killed in the clash.

The soldier injured in the clash was rushed to the Ağrı State Hospital, but passed away in the hospital.

In a separate incident, four PKK militants were killed during airstrikes in the southeastern Şırnak province late on Nov. 14, the Turkish military announced on Nov. 15.

In a statement, the Turkish Armed Forces said the airstrikes against the PKK were carried out following reconnaissance and surveillance missions as part of a counter-terror operation.
