United Nations Deputy Spokesman Ferhan Haq said all states should prevent “further militarization” of the Syrian conflict over a question on Turkey’s position regarding the war-torn country.

“Asked about Turkey’s role in Syria, the Spokesperson reiterated that the Secretary-General has called on all states, including those in the region, to play a positive role and prevent the further militarization of the conflict,” a statement from the United Nations on the March 27 briefing read.

His remarks came after an illegal recording of a secret security meeting held at the Foreign Ministry was published on YouTube.

Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu slammed the act, saying that “it is tantamount to declaring war on Turkey.”
