An anticipated cold front from the Balkans brought heavy snow to the whole country today.

The snow in Istanbul, which started last night, mainly affected the Çamlıca, Beykoz and Altunizade districts of the Anatolian part of the city and the Bağcılar, Sarıyer, Beylikdüzü and Kağıthane districts of the European side, according to private broadcaster CNN Türk.

Traffic slowed down in the city, while many international and domestic flights operated by Turkish Airlines (THY) were cancelled due to the winter weather.

The Anatolian cities of Tunceli, Muş, Erzurum, Erzincan, Hakkari and Gümüşhane are also being affected by heavy snow. Primary schools closed for one day in some small districts and many village highways are reportedly blocked due to the snow.
