Just last month the hashtag #IWearMySkirtTheWayIWant was being used in protest of a separate incident in France. A young girl was forbidden from entering middle school because her skirt’s length was judged too long and was considered a religious symbol, which is banned in public schools in France.

“The female body becomes a battleground whenever a country is in a mess. By staying silent, we lose what little we have gained and the condition for women in public spaces starts to deteriorate. With more than 13,000 “likes,” the webpage went viral. “This page has to continue its fight even after the incident. I’d like it to be a witness to the issues women confront in their daily life. I will consider it successful when everyone takes ownership of it. It is not just about showing off legs, the problem is somewhere else,” Djama said to France 24.
