AKP mayor dies of heart attack in Aydın

The mayor of the İncirliova district in the western province of Aydın, who was member of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), died of a heart attack while on duty on Sept. 4.Reports claim that Cafer Yıldırım had a heart attack in his room after an argument with a municipal police officer. He was rushed to Aydın’s Atatürk Hospital by municipality officials, but doctors failed to save his life.
Yıldırım is the third mayor to lose his life while on duty in the same election term. Former mayor Yunus Şentürk died on Jan. 20, 2012, while his replacement, Adnan Yıldız, also died eight months after taking office on Sept. 7, 2012.
Yıldırım was married with four children.
