Afife Theater Awards presented
ISTANBUL
The 19th Yapı Kredi Afife Theater Awards were held on April 27 at the Haliç Congress Center.The award for the best actress and actor went to Aslı Yılmaz and Tuğrul Tülek, respectively, at this year’s ceremony.
The most successful production of the year was awarded to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) City Theater for its production of William Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream.”
The Muhsin Ertuğrul Special Award was presented to Professor Zeliha Berksoy, while the Cevat Fehmi Başkut Special Award went to Firuze Engin and the Yapı Kredi Special Award to Şahika Tekand.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yapı Kredi Art Consultant Haldun Dormen said Afife Jale, who took the stage for the first time in 1919, had reformed the acting world unintentionally. He also celebrated the centenary of the Istanbul City Theaters.
Figures of the art world that passed away during the past year were commemorated at the event, as well.
Other winners included Alexander Popovski as best director, Tomris İncer as best supporting actress and Yavuz Şeker as best supporting actor.
