A night of baroque with Çağatay Akyol
Harpist Çağatay Akyol and the soloists of the Ankara Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert titled “A Baroque and Impressionist Spring Rite” March 21 at 8 p.m. at Istanbul’s Fulya Sanat. The concert, which assembles French Impressionist composers, German composers of the Baroque era, Mozart and Czech composer Anton Reicha, who was one of the most important figures of the 18th century, shuttles back and forth between the magical works and eras of the chamber music repertory. Among these works are ones specific to Claude Debussy’s “Danses Sacrée et Profane;” one of Maurice Ravel’s most-loved pieces, “Introduction et Allegro;” movements from Ravel’s “Violin and Cello Sonata,” which has a special place in chamber music repertory; one of Jacques Ibert’s most loved works, “Entr’acte,” which generates a Spanish flamenco atmosphere in every hall where it is played; movements from Reicha’s chirpy and melodic “Clarinet Quintet;” George Fredric Handel’s “Harp Concerto,” which occupies a poetic place among Baroque concertos; and “Sonata for Flute and Violin” by Georg Philipp Telemann, who is considered one of the most creative, loved and melodic composers of his time.
