70 tons of heroin seized in 5 years

About 70 tons of heroin have been seized in Turkey over the last five years, Turkish Police Office’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department chair Mehmet Yeşilkaya has said suring his speech at the opening session of the third Regional Anti-Drug Workshop held at Istanbul’s Conrad Hotel.“This amount, which corresponds to 20 percent of the total heroin seized globally, is about two times more than the total amount seized in European countries. According to the latest data, more than 13 tons of heroin were seized in Turkey in 2012. This year, the largest amount of heroin in the world has been seized in Turkey. Also, some successes have been achieved against drugs such as cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana as part of the struggle activities. In 2012 about 450 kilograms of cocaine, 3 million tablets of ecstasy and 147 tons of marijuana were seized,” he added.
