61 police personnel arrested in coup attempt probe for using ByLock
ISTANBUL
Sixty-one police personnel in Turkey were arrested on Oct. 16 as part of the probe into the Gülen movement, on charges that they were using the ByLock application, a messaging app that is said to have been used by the group for concealed conversations.Sixty-five suspects were initially detained for using the encrypted messaging app. Four were released on probation.
Among the 61 arrested suspects were 45 police chiefs and deputies.
A local Istanbul court has also ordered the arrest of 99 people for membership of a terrorist organization,
increasing the total number of police officers with arrest warrants in the ByLock probe at 160.
