The truck driver was taken into custody and a criminal case has been brought against him. Edirne Governor Mustafa Büyük said Turkish security forces have been engaged in a tough fight against drug smugglers.
"The police are investigating those linked to this latest attempt, both in Turkey and abroad," he was quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.
The heroin was seized at the Hamzabey border gate, which lacks x-ray scanning equipment, said the governor. "We are aware this may encourage smugglers to use the Hamzabey border gate," he said. "All necessary measures have been taken, we are determined to stop drug trafficking."
