5.1-magnitude earthquake hits eastern province of Muş

The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded near Tüten village, on the road connecting Muş to its quake-prone district of Varto.
A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the eastern province of Muş at 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 17, the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute of Istanbul’s Boğaziçi University said, while noting that there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded near Tüten village, on the road connecting Muş to its quake-prone district of Varto.
The temblor occurred at a depth of 2.5 kilometers and was felt in Muş as well as in district centers.
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Varto in 1966 killed 2,394 people and destroyed almost the entire town.
