43 detained in raids in southeastern Turkey

Some 43 people were detained early on June 3 in multiple operations against the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement (YDG-H), an offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) in the southern province of Şırnak.Authorities said operations were held against those who allegedly plotted attacks for the upcoming election day and took part in several street protests in the past.
Seventeen people were detained, four of them under the age of 18, in the Silopi district of Şırnak in operations held around 3:00 a.m. in the neighborhoods of Cudi, Nur, Dicle, Şehit Harunboy, Yenişehir and Karşıyaka, in company of a number of guarded vehicles and special operation teams. The 17 detainees were taken to the Silopi District Security Directorate after their detention.
The other 26 were detained in a separate operation held by a large number of police forces.
In multiple raids held by police forces wearing face masks, gunfire was heard in side streets.
Detention warrants were issued for 37 other people currently being sought by the police.
