A total of 362 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants were killed in operations targeting the jihadist group’s positions in Syria, Turkey’s defense minister has announced.

Speaking in the southern province of Kilis, Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz said 146 targets had been shelled by Turkish artillery and 362 ISIL militants had been killed.

Kilis had recently been the target of rockets fired from Syria.

On April 13, five Katyusha rocket projectiles landed in the border province for the third consecutive day. No casualties were reported in the incident.

However, two people were killed and six were wounded on April 12 when two rocket projectiles landed in the province, in addition to another 12 wounded on April 11.

Turkish Chief of Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar and National Intelligence Agency (MİT) head Hakan Fidan arrived in Kilis on April 13, examining the border region from the air and observing military units in the area, accompanied by Yılmaz, generals and MİT officials.
