ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
The 26th International İzmir Festival kicks off with a concert tonight from the Philharmonia Orchestra, which will be performing as part of its “Re-Rite” project. The orchestra will play Igor Stravinsky’s 1918 “The Soldier’s Tale,” from a post-war time when jazz was just beginning to emerge into the mainstream. The story is a dark Faustian fable about a deserting soldier and the Devil, who eventually possesses his soul. The piece is scored for just seven instruments: clarinet, bassoon, cornet, trombone, violin, double bass and percussion.
