2 million liras granted to cinema industry

The Committee for Supporting the Cinema Industry has announced that it will award grants totaling 2 million Turkish Liras to Turkish cinema projects. The grants are meant to contribute to the development of the cinema industry.

The Culture and Tourism Ministry’s press relations secretary delivered a written statement saying that the amount of the aid had increased by 57 percent this year. The decision was made at a meeting of the committee held on June 27 and 28.

Projects increased from 68 to 96 this year
In 2011 the grant supported 68 projects, and in 2012 this figure has increased to 96 projects. In 2011 the committee gave 1.2 million liras to the industry, and in 2012 this figure rose by 729,000 liras. The largest increase in the grant is in the animation sector, with a total of 297,000 liras going to 16 animated movies. A total of 26 short movie projects will get 287,000 liras, while 232,000 liras will be given to support screenplay writing.

The written statement also said the cooperation between Cem Erkul of the Cinema General Directorate, and Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay still continues. The cooperation and work will continue, the law governing Turkish cinema will come into effect, and support for the industry will increase, according to Erkul. The Cinema General Directorate’s importance has become evident with this grant, and the cinema industry will become a growing center of attraction in Turkey, Erkul said.

Meanwhile the ministry will continue to support documentaries and young scenarists. The ministry will give a total of 1.1 million liras in grants to Turkey’s documentary industry this year.
