Nine Turkish soldiers and a village guard were killed when a minibus they were traveling in rolled over into a ditch in the southeastern province of Şırnak today.
The soldiers were traveling in a civilian van when the village guard who was driving the vehicle lost control on a curve near the Gülyazı village of Şırnak’s Uludere district.
The van rolled into the ditch, killing nine soldiers and the driver. Villagers who saw the accident rushed to pull the soldiers out of the van and transported the soldiers to hospitals.
The soldiers were on a "special mission” to provide security for independent deputy Ahmet Türk, who was paying a visit to the relatives of the victims of a botched air raid by the Turkish air forces that killed 34 civilians in December in Uludere, Doğan's reporter said.
