The nine-day long holiday for Eid al-Adha, the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice, coupled with a weaker Turkish Lira, has attracted both foreign and domestic tourists to Turkish resorts.
According to Demirören News Agency, the town of Marmaris will host around one million tourists during the holiday this week.
The population of residents in Marmaris is around 100,000.
Lately, traffic is routinely jammed on the highway between Marmaris and the neighboring resort town of Datça.
Hotels are working at full capacity, while both beaches and bars are overcrowded in Marmaris, which is located on where the Aegean Sea becomes the Mediterranean.
The situation is similar in the north of Turkey’s Aegean region.
Officials say the island of Cunda is particularly popular among tourists this year.
Authorities have released warnings advising people to book places beforehand.
