Three police officers killed in southeastern Turkey

Three police officers were killed and two others were wounded when gunfire opened up from a cell house used by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants early on July 22 in the Ergani district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.Five officers were initially wounded in the exchange of gunfire between PKK militants and the police officers who had arrived at the scene after detecting the cell house. Officers Engin Yılmaz, Salih Aksu and Ahmet Can later succumbed to their wounds at Ergani Public Hospital, while the two other wounded officers were still receiving treatment.
Two PKK militants were also killed in the clashes, which lasted until the morning.
