The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has criticized the government’s foreign policy for being “war-oriented,” and said Turkey had no neighbors’ doors left to knock on.Speaking at a meeting in Istanbul, party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said Turkey’s foreign policy “should be peace-oriented not war-oriented,” reminding the audience of the words used by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding member of the republican system, “peace at home is peace in the world” and “war is murder unless it is imperative.”
“These are the words of people that were engaged in a war and who had paid the price. Given this, our foreign policy should be peace-oriented. There can’t be any war-oriented foreign policy. Turkey has not left itself any neighbors’ doors to knock on in Syria, Iraq, Egypt, or Iran,” he said.
