Ceren Yılmaz (L), a university student weighing 40 kilograms, won the eating contest organized by a local restaurant in the Kepez district on Nov. 6 by beating hundreds of competitors.
In addition to the shish kebabs, which are made of meat or minced meat put on skewers, Yılmaz also ate lavash bread and a plate of salad while drinking two cups of ayran.
As a prize, she won 5,000 Turkish Liras, an electrical motorcycle and free meals at the restaurant for six months.
“My legs were trembling when I ate the 315th shish kebab, so I stopped. But I feel fine now,” Yılmaz told journalists. A weight scale showed she gained three kilograms during the competition.
Yılmaz had broken the restaurant’s first record by eating 255 shish kebabs in 23 minutes on July 31. The young woman entered the competition again on Nov. 6 after her record was recently broken by former wrestler Osman Aksöl, who had eaten 301 shish kebabs.
In the first round of competition, Yılmaz had won a smart phone worth 5,500 liras and free meals at the restaurant for five months. “First, I was scared my stomach would blow up. I plan to improve my record soon,” Yılmaz had told Demirören News Agency.
The restaurant owner İlyas Demir said he was happy about the popularity of the contest, which attracted more customers to his restaurant. “People are coming to Antalya from other cities to participate in this contest. I will give an electric motorcycle to whoever can eat more than 400 shish kebabs,” he said. The entrance fee for the competition is 700 liras.
