One killed, 20 wounded in blast in Turkey’s southeast

One person has been killed and 20 people have been wounded in a blast which started a fire in Turkey’s southeastern province of Mardin.

The blast took place at around 10:00 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the Selahaddin Eyyubi neighborhood of Mardin’s Nusaybin district. 

The explosion caused a fire which spread from a market to the flats located in the same building on Sakarya Street. 

Fire squads from the Nusaybin and Kızıltepe districts, police water cannons and fire crews from a refugee camp intervened and managed to extinguish the fire within two hours. 

The 20 wounded people, who were reportedly affected by the fire, were transferred to Nusaybin State Hospital for treatment. 

Meanwhile, police teams recovered the body of a person who remains unidentified.

The body was found under a private car parked ten meters from the site of the explosion. 

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blast.
