Municipality suspends civil servant who had himself carried during snow inspection

A municipal inspector, who had himself carried by farmers in the Aegean province of Manisa as he was visiting a neighborhood to determine damage caused by snow, has been suspended, according to a statement released by the municipality.

Nedim Zurnacı, the head of the rural services department in Manisa Municipality, was pictured in the arms of two farmers to avoid getting his shoes dirty and wet on a street in Akhisar district on Jan. 3.
 
Manisa Mayor Cengiz Ergün said in a statement that he instructed a team headed by Zurnacı to determine damage to greenhouses caused by a heavy snow which started on Dec. 30, 2014, adding that Zurnacı having himself carried by farmers "does not comply with the municipality’s attitude of service, citizen relations and values."

“An administrative investigation was launched into the incident today, as it is the first work day since the incident took place, and the related person has been dismissed from his post,” Ergün, who was elected as Manisa mayor from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) in the March 2014 local elections.

Ergün stressed that they would "not hesitate" to give out necessary penalties for the action of their official.
