MİT denies wiretapping allegations

ANKARA

CHP deputy group chair Emine Ülker Tarhan,submitted a written motion to the Parliament on wiretapping issue.

Claims the Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader, his family and several other members of the Parliament were being wiretapped are unfounded, Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) said yesterday.

“As it appeared in written and visual media on Aug. 7, 2012, claims made by Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader and Public Spokesperson of the Party that the CHP leader, his family and several other members of the Parliament were being wiretrapped by MİT does not reflect the truth. Furthermore, duties of the MİT are defined by law and the claimed matters do not fall under the Undersecretariat’s line of duties,” the MİT’s written statement read. 

“My family and I are being eavesdropped, I received concrete data accordingly. They are wiretapping [us]... Yet, Prime Minister [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] did not deny [the allegations]. He said that every breath I take was being watched,” Kılıçdaroğlu said, referring to Erdoğan’s Feb. 15 speech at his party’s parliamentary group, in an interview with daily Habertürk published Aug. 7. The CHP leader claimed he and his family were being eavesdropped on by the MİT. 

Also, CHP deputy group chair Emine Ülker Tarhan, who submitted a written motion to the Parliament on Aug. 5 about the issue claimed that government aims to use the records against them and says they got the info from inside the MİT. k HDN
