Historic education building in Istanbul damaged by flames

A fire broke out at the Istanbul Education Department’s historic building in the Cağaloğlu neighborhood of Fatih early this morning, causing damage, Doğan news agency has reported.
Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control after an hour.
The exact cause of the fire will be determined after officials examine the building.
“It is said that [the cause of the fire] was electrical, but it has not become clear yet,” Istanbul Education Department official Muammer Yıldız said, while expressing his sadness about the damage to the building.
