Gül sends message to Obama, says attack targeted Turkey as well

Turkish President Abdullah Gül has sent a message to U.S. President Barack Obama and expressed Turkey’s solidarity, after an suicide attack targeting the American Embassy in Ankara killed two and heavily injured a reporter. 

“I condemn this heinous attack in my name and on behalf of the Turkish people. Without a doubt this attack, which targeted Turkey as much as the U.S., will reinforce our mutual will against terrorism,” said Gül in the message.

The Turkish authorities are exerting intensive efforts to bring those responsible for the attack to account, he added.

Prime Minister Erdoğan has also sent a separate message to Obama, Anatolia news agency has reported. Emphasizing the cooperation between the security institutions of the two countries, Erdoğan also said that he considered the attack against the U.S. to be an attack against Turkey. 

“The attack exposed the need to increase the cooperation between Turkey and the United States in fighting all kinds of terrorism,” Erdoğan's message said.
