AĞRI – Anadolu Agency
Two military personnel and two security guards were killed early on Sept. 30 during an operation against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Ağri, province’s governorship said.
The governor’s office added that eight security guards were also injured in the same operation in the Ağrı’s Dogubeyazıt district. The operation came after PKK militants killed three migrants on Sept. 25 and injured seven others. Meanwhile, 23 PKK militants were killed in ongoing operations in five eastern and southeastern provinces in the last 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said on Sept. 29.
Ten militants were killed in Ağrı, eight in Şırnak, three in Hakkari and two in Van, according to a written statement. Five militants also surrendered in Şırnak's Silopi district, it said.
A number of weapons and pieces of ammunition were also seized during the operations, the statement added.
Moreover, at least nine PKK militants were killed on Sept. 29 during counter-terror operations in Turkey and northern Iraq, said a statement by the Turkish General Staff. Turkish jets targeted PKK camps in northern Iraq's Avaşin-Basyan region and killed three terrorists, the statement said.
