Four HDP MPs start curfew hunger strike against Nusaybin curfew

Four Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies have started a hunger strike to protest the days-long curfew in the southeastern town of Nusaybin, with the military operation still ongoing in the district.

HDP deputies Gülseren Yıldırım, Ali Atalan, Erol Dora and Mithat Sancar, began a hunger strike in protest against the curfew in place for more than a week in Nusaybin, a district in the southeastern province of Mardin, while military operations against militants were reported to be still ongoing.

The indeterminate curfew in Nusaybin was declared at 9 p.m. on Nov. 13 and reported to remain in place.
The southeastern town of Nusaybin has been under curfew for more than a week, as military operations continue against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the area, daily Hürriyet has reported.

Out of electricity

Some 70 percent of the neighborhoods in Nusaybin were reported to be out of electricity, with thirty percent experiencing cuts to their water supply. In response to the curfew, four Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies, Gülseren Yıldırım, Ali Atalan, Erol Dora and Mithat Sancar, began a hunger strike in protest. The four have thus far been in contact with the Mardin Governor’s Office and the Nusaybin District Governor’s Office to help end clashes in the district.

Separate curfews were also imposed on 26 neighborhoods in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır’s Lice and Hani districts, starting from 5 a.m. on Nov. 20.
