Foreign Ministry promotes e-correspondence

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, which has been using the Electronic Document Management System since 2001, is also encouraging other public institutions to use e-correspondence.

Deputy Foreign Minister Naci Koru held a press conference yesterday regarding steps taken concerning the use of e-correspondence among public institutions. Officials from the Secretariat-General for Presidency, the Justice Ministry, the Development Ministry, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industry and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) also attended the conference.

In a statement released after the meeting, the ministry said the number of recorded documents in the Electronic Document Management System and Document Archive had exceeded 12 million since it first went into use in 2001.

The ministry underlined its willingness for using e-correspondence with more public institutions in the coming period.

Along with the e-correspondence between the Secretariat-General for Presidency, the Justice Ministry and the Undersecretariat for Defense Industry since last year, more than 50,000 documents have become available to be transmitted in an electronic environment, the ministry said.

With the implementation of the e-correspondence project, correspondences will be held more rapidly, security of documents will be raised; the nature and environment will be protected; effective use of public sources will be provided; and services to citizens will be improved, the statement also said.
