EU recovery raises Turkey’s exports

The recovery in the European Union will positively affect Turkey’s exports, Economy Minister Zafer Çağlayan said on Nov. 1, pointing out that the latest export data showed that exports to the EU rose by 4.3 percent in October from the same month a year earlier.Turkey’s exports reached $11.8 billion in October, a 1.5 percent increase compared to the same month last year, the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) announced on Nov. 1.
Çağlayan said Turkish exports to the EU had increased 4.3 percent in the same period, hitting $5.2 billion.
“The recovery process of the EU economy will have a positive effect on Turkish exports,” he said, noting that Turkey exported to 218 different countries and customs zones in October 2013. “Turkey’s 17 provinces have made over $100 million exports.”
The TİM’s exports figure, covering the period between January-October, decreased 0.2 percent to $124.3 billion from the same period a year earlier.
“Turkey’s imports in the last 12 months reached $150.7 billion, increasing 1.7 percent,” it said.
Turkish exports hitting $12.5 billion in September 2013, an increase of 11.1 percent compared to the same month in 2012.
