Dutch leg of joint project ends June 6

The first phase of “Creative Bridges; From Traditional Arts to Creative Industries,” will end on June 6 with a presentation by Turkish designer Bahar Korçan at the Basic Instinct Expo in the Dutch city of Arnhem.The project, organized by the Association for Intercultural Communication & Interdisciplinary Art for the 400th year of relations between Turkey and the Netherlands, focuses on bridging traditional arts and crafts and contemporary design of the Netherlands and Turkey.
Under the management of association chairman Vecdi Sayar and with coordination by Özdem Petek, the first stage of the project featured spring lectures promoting Turkey’s arts and crafts in the Netherlands beginning in April.
The presentations were organized in seven Dutch cities and drew great interest from university lecturers and students.
During the second phase of the project, fall workshops in Turkey, Dutch designers and design students will have the opportunity to work with Turkish craftsmen and local artists at eight workshops in five Turkish provinces, creating new grounds for cooperation in creative industries. The final phase of the project is a conference in Istanbul in October.
