One soldier killed, two others wounded in PKK attack in Bitlis

One soldier was killed and two were injured in an attack carried out by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the eastern Turkish province of Bitlis on June 25, officials have said.

The Bitlis Governor’s Office stated that the militants opened fire on troops conducting a counterterrorism operation in the rural area of the village of Aşağıyolak.

The Interior Ministry had announced on June 25 that at least 24 outlawed PKK militants were “neutralized” as part of anti-terror operations across Turkey over the past week.

According to the ministry, 12 of the militants were killed, seven others were captured, and five surrendered to authorities.

The ministry also said the Turkish Armed Forces carried out 2,945 counter-terror operations between June 18 and June 25 with the assistance of land and air forces.

During the operations, security forces also seized 24 guns and 560 rounds of various ammunition.
