A Turkish designer, Orhan Okay, has re-designed the Turkish Lira with a “different touch.” In his bold proposal, Okay uses vivid colors, an unconventional typography and the golden ratio to place visual and other banknote elements. The most surprising element of the design, however, stems from Okay’s observation that banknotes change hands vertically in daily life. The characters selected to adorn the banknotes, too, have surprised some people, as seen in reactions of Turkish social media June 1. Here are the banknotes:
