A police officer in the eastern province of Bingöl on Aug. 10 saved the life of a suicidal 18-year-old woman on a motorway overpass, by pretending to be a journalist as the woman was threatening to jump if police officers got too close. The incident occurred on the Bingöl-Muş highway in the city’s Kaleönü neighborhood.
The woman, identified only by the initials S.B., told witnesses on the overpass that she demanded to speak with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Later on ambulance, fire department and police teams were dispatched to the scene of the incident.
Police officers spoke with the woman and tried in vain to talk her down.
S.B. reportedly told them that she wanted to talk with journalists about the reason why she was threatening suicide, after which one police officer approached her pretending to be a journalist with a camera around his neck.
The police officer was able to get closer, after which he managed to bring her down from the overpass. Following a health check-up, police at the scene took the woman, who is believed to be suffering from psychological problems, to a nearby police station to take her testimony.
